Intellectual, Emotional, Spiritual

IES is a professional development curriculum designed by Kathryn Endler that aims to generate love, care, and solidarity among educators and individuals in highly social professions by incorporating more personal and emotional intelligences into academic spaces.

Mindscape 26,by Judith Bergerson

Love

An emotion that is rooted in compassion, enthusiasm, and empathy. It aims to disintegrate judgmental tendencies.

Care

A practice that is not only focused on the physical well-being of learners, but the emotional as well. Care is rooted in the emotion of love.

Solidarity

Meaningful relationships that extend beyond the superficial level and go into the core of individuals--knowing inner wants, needs, passions, and values. Knowing the soul.

Format

IES Curriculum is designed to take place over the course of three days of professional development with educators. However, each module is divided into lesson plans with minutes, so it may be spread out or adapted to the appropriate context. While IES is particularly interested in the well-being of educators, the activities can also be applied to many other workplace environments, especially careers that are high in social contact.

Over the course of the three modules, participants will engage in themes such as fostering a safe community, identity excavation, evoking the heart of the teacher, and the power of metaphor. The curriculum culminates in Module 3 with a multimodal soul map, a project that is intended to excavate various aspect of participants' identity that extend beyond the standard demographic list and incorporate more emotional and spiritual ways of being. Participants will then have an opportunity to engage in a Gallery Walk that will allow them to share their multimodal project with the community.
